I Get This Often - Last Door Review

New review of Last Door. I hear this response a lot. Readers are left grasping for the right adjectives to describe the undefinable.

"This book is hard to explain, it was unbelievable, remarkable, inspirational, and terrifying all at the same time. I am left speechless. Something you should read. It will really leave you thinking."

From Chapter 11 of "Last Door," Holly in the Bathtub

BLAM! The bathroom door was thrown open, and the door knob slammed hard into the back of the wall. Holly jolted from the startling intrusion. She slumped down in the bubbles in an attempt to cover her nakedness. The water splashed at the candles and made them hiss. Brendan stood at the door, and he had very dark circles under his eyes.

“Brendan, what is it? I’m in the bath.”

Brendan glared at Holly, not saying a word.

“Brendan.”

Her irritation level was rising along with the redness in her face.

No response.

“Brendan!”

Holly’s heart beat hard now. Her anger changed to a helpless feeling of having no control. Who was this in front of her? What was happening? She sank a little lower under the water, realizing full well how completely vulnerable she was. Like small, naked prey, she felt cornered with the eyes of a predator in front of her sizing her up.

Brendan moved in closer until he was standing directly over Holly.

Awesome 5-Star Review from Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Chilling true story, November 13, 2009
By George Wilhite (Santa Rosa, CA)

This review is from: Last Door (Paperback)

"Wow! I have read a lot of horror but this one, in part because it was based on a true story, really got me. An amazing story of good vs evil and the unbelievable evil humans perpetrate on each other. Unlike the over-the-top cheap thrills in books and movies like "The Exorcist," all the events are presented professionally and passionately here by Rozier. She remains true to the facts but gives the characters plenty of realistic emotional depth. A must read."

Candy Ethics

I came home with candy to hand out on Halloween. I got a variety of candies and suckers for .98 cents a pound - what a bargain. Then, my son informed me that I had to go back to the store to get the good, name brand candy bars, which run $5 a pound. He said that we live in a nice neighborhood, and the kids come here and expect to get the good stuff.

"Shouldn't the little beggars be grateful for what they get?" I said.
"No. If you give them crap candy, they'll egg your house," son said.

Well, okay then. Back to the store I went to get the expensive candy. Good to know the rules of Halloween.

San Luis Obispo Book Festival II

It was a blustery day at the SLO book festival, hence my crazy, wind-blown hair. All day I heard glass breaking from things falling off of tables. To my right was a mother who wrote a book about her daughter, Amber, who died of cancer (This is a Good Day to Live). To my left was the famous entertainer, Bud Mercer (96 yrs. old and still so hep!)(Tripping the Light Fantastic).

Met a lot of wonderful readers and writers and got to hear Bud's son, Buddy, play the guitar and banjo!

"Last Door" Excerpt

Brendan waited in the back seat while his stepmother went into the store. A few minutes later, Holly returned. She put her drink in the cup holder and peeled back the wrapper from a Caramello candy bar. Over the back seat, a young child’s voice spoke out.
“I like Cawamello, too.”
Holly froze with bewilderment. She looked in the rear view mirror, back at Brendan. He had his index finger hooked half way in his mouth. She turned around to face him.
“What did you say?” she asked.
In a little child’s voice, Brendan repeated, “I like Cawamello too.” He blinked his wide-open eyes.
Holly paused, dumbfounded, and bit the inside of her bottom lip. Then, she boldly acted on her hunch.
“What is your name?”
The reply was innocent and direct, “Tommy.”
Holly suddenly felt sucked in to a vortex of confusion. She struggled to grasp at reality, but, instead, she was enveloped in a nebulous mass of the illogical.

SoCo Book Fest

The book fest in Santa Rosa was awesome. A man dressed as Baudelaire's "Fleur de Mal" came by my space every 40 minutes for "sustenence" (free candy). I learned a new term for multiples, "Trans Charactered" (hmmm). Sold lots of books and met a lot of cool readers and writers. Oh, and I met a savant man who discussed way-over-my-head mathmatical theories. It hurt my brain and stimulated it at the same time. He was super weird-cool-radically brilliant.

I took side trips in the area to Bodega Bay and Petaluma to the heirloom "Seed Bank," located in a super old bank building. Fun trip!

Operation Ebook Drop for the Troops

Apparently, downtime can get pretty boring when soldiers are deployed overseas, and it's not very convenient to carry around 50 books.

This is a brand new program that gets free ebooks to soldiers overseas. As a participating author, I've already received some cool letters of appreciation from soldiers thankful to have some literary escapism while deployed.

If you know an author or a U.S. soldier who might be interested in this program, check out the article below which outlines the details.

Funniest blog response to "Last Door" and Demons

Also, I just finished the review of Last Door. The author, K Raven Rozier, is also a screenwriter and the book reads like a movie. I couldn't stop reading! Check it out on my Examiner Page.

It's also time for the quarterly grooming of Clemenza. She's anxious to see her Petco buddies.

Demon vs Demon-free
I recently reviewed a non-fiction book called Last Door. It was all about exorcisms and removing demons, with an underlying message about how people around us can be possessed and we may never know it. I really enjoyed the book.

So now I'm obsessed with demons. As in who's got em and who don't. Instead of contemplating which of my customers has swine flu, I will now label them two ways: demon and demon-free. In fact, you could probably label EVERYTHING this way: "This ice cream is definitely demon-free."

Management is demon.
The drive thru is demon.
Retail is demon.
The Bandit is, without doubt, demon.
Food, to me, is generally demon-free. Even if it causes an unpleasant digestive feeling, it's demon-free because I will inevitably eat it again.
SYTYCD is demon-free because Janine won. And only because Janine won.
Reality TV is demon due to addictive qualities.
Clemenza is demon when she looks at you, then grabs her toy and kills it, then looks at you again. She's clearly sending messages.

Have a demon-free Friday!

Pittsburgh Books Examiner

Independent Book Review:

Last Door by K. Raven Rozier

August 8, 8:13 AM Pittsburgh Books Examiner Holly Christine

Last Door
is a non-fiction work by K. Raven Rozier. Based upon true events, this book takes its readers for a ride into the unknown, facing spiritual questions from the other side.

While the names of this true story have been changed to protect the identity of the family that endured so much, Rozier manages to keep the reader hooked from the start. She tells the story of Sean and Holly O’Neal, sending shivers to readers and forcing them to feel the dark side of spirituality.

Well-written and equally engaging, this story will keep your attention from start to end.
